| We have returned from a great vacation on Padre Island! Our condo at the Bahia Mar was in great condition. My husband and I agree that we were very fortunate. We rented from Padre Island Rentals. They have a website and we were able to look at photos of the condo before we decided to rent it. I think we got the best two bedroom condo they have at the Bahia Mar. It was a little scary walking up to the door for the first time. The condos are old and worn on the outside. They have a wooden exterior and the stairways are dark. The doors to the units are yellow and some were caked with dirt. When we opened the door to our condo we were so relieved. The owners have completely redone this condo. There are several buildings of condos. We were in one of the buildings by the beach. I don't want to go to the beach and not have an unobstructed beachfront veiw from my balcony. The beach was beautiful. It was clean, not crowded, no washed up seaweed, and I could see my feet in waist deep water. (Best in Texas!) The swimming pools were 50/50. The water in pool by the beach was hot by the afternoon. I like cool pool water on a hot day. The pool by the hotel was a cooler temperature and cleaner, but the hot tub was not hot. It was great for us because our kids used it like a kiddie pool, but you may want a hot tub that is hot. The Bahia Mar is worn. It's not luxurious, fancy, or modern. Our kids don't know the difference and they had the time of their lives! South Padre is a beach vacation destination. There are dozens of other places to stay. I wouldn't choose to stay in the Bahia Mar Hotel. South Padre offers several other hotels that are much closer to the beach, newer, and nicer. With all the choices the island has to offer we probably won't stay at the Bahia Mar again. We were lucky to have such a nice condo. Go and stay in a place you know you will be comfortable. The beach is great. |
